*Intervista dell’8 giugno 2020.
Ho avuto il grande piacere di discutere con David Löfquist, Capitano del Mjällby AIF. Passato anche dall’Italia, sta guidando i suoi compagni di squadra a grandissimi successi come le due promozioni consecutive nel 2018 e 2019. Adesso, arrivati in Allsvenskan vogliono continuare a stupire! Abbiamo parlato di questo e molto altro nell’intervista che segue!
ICN: Ciao! Sei nato e cresciuto a Mjällby, che cosa rappresenta per te il club della tua città?
DL: Ciao, il Mjällby AIF per me rappresenta molto per tante ragioni. Il Mjällby è stato il primo club a darmi la possibilità di giocare nel Calcio professionistico e lo fa ancora. Il club è la mia seconda casa da più di 10 stagioni ormai.
ICN: Più di 250 presenze con il club e ora sei anche Capitano. Quanto è importante questo ruolo per te?
DL: Innanzitutto per me è un onore essere il Capitano della squadra della mia città natale. Il ruolo è importante per me. Mi spinge a migliorare molto come calciatore ma anche dal punto di vista della leadership, per guidare i giovani che abbiamo in squadra.
ICN: È un periodo incredibile per il Mjällby AIF! Avete dominato il campionato di Ettan Södra nel 2018, vinto la Superettan nel 2019 e adesso siete ai Quarti di Finale della Svenska Cupen. Qual è il segreto del vostro successo?
DL: Non credo che abbiamo un segreto. È solo merito del duro lavoro dei calciatori e dell’intera organizzazione. E ovviamente anche un po’ di fortuna ma come dice sempre Ingemar Stenmark – Più mi alleno, più sono fortunato.
ICN: Ti conosciamo principalmente come mediano ma puoi giocare praticamente ovunque. C’è un ruolo che preferisci? Perchè esattamente quello?
DL: Sono stato sempre a disposizione della squadra quindi ho sempre dato il meglio in qualsiasi ruolo l’allenatore mi fa giocare. Potendo scegliere, preferisco giocare al centro.
ICN: Hai sempre avuto un grande feeling con il gol. Secondo te, qual è la tua migliore qualità in questo ambito specifico?
DL: Oh bella domanda! Sono un buon tiratore con entrambi i piedi e leggo bene le situazioni di gioco quindi mi piazzo nella posizione giusta. Come per tutto il resto, mi alleno davvero tanto.
ICN: Hai avuto un’esperienza in Italia. Prima ti acquistò il Parma e poi andasti a giocare a Gubbio in Serie B. Puoi raccontarci questa esperienza?
DL: Avrei voluto che il mio periodo in Italia fosse migliore anche se ho imparato molto quando ero li. Sfortunatamente non ho mai avuto una possibilità a Parma. Dopo le mie prime due settimane cambiammo allenatore, ed il nuovo coach (Donadoni) prese 8 nuovi giocatori in squadra. Dopo questo, il Parma decise di mandarmi in prestito. Ero triste perché penso che le mie prestazioni fossero buone durante i due mesi in cui sono stato al Parma. Il periodo a Gubbio non andò come me lo aspettavo, mi infortunai dopo due mesi.
ICN: Qual è la principale differenza tra la Serie B e l’Allsvenskan? Il livello è simile secondo te?
DL: Si, direi simile. Secondo me però in Serie B il livello è leggermente più alto. In Serie B ci sono tanti giovani calciatori che sono davvero forti, la maggior parte infatti sono in prestito dalla Serie A.
ICN: Durante le tue esperienze al Malmö e all’Odense, cosa hai imparato?
DL: In tutti questi club (Parma, Gubbio, Malmö, Odense) ho imparato molto. In Italia ho imparato molto riguardo alla tattica. A Malmö cosa significa giocare per un club che per i propri tifosi, deve sempre vincere. A Odense ho imparato molto riguardo me stesso come persona e come gestire le difficili condizioni fisiche.
ICN: Quando eri un ragazzino, avevi un idolo calcistico? Ti ispiravi a lui quando giocavi?
DL: Non posso dire di averne avuto solo uno. Mi piaceva/piace guardare il Calcio in TV quindi ne ho osservati tanti.
ICN: C’è una partita che non dimenticherai mai?
DL: Si, il mio esordio in Allsvenskan, fuori casa al Råsundastadion contro l’AIK.
ICN: Qual è il tuo più grande sogno con la maglia del Mjällby AIF?
DL: Vincere l’Allsvenskan e giocare in Europa.
ICN: Come stai vivendo l’incertezza legata al virus? Come ti alleni? È difficile gestirsi quando non sai la data esatta del ritorno in campo?
DL: Ci stiamo allenando normalmente. Si, non è facile gestirsi quando non hai partite da giocare nel weekend ma al tempo stesso, noi calciatori non possiamo lamentarci. Molte persone soffrono molto più di noi.
ICN: Ultima domanda, te la devo fare necessariamente! Perché il tuo soprannome è Löken (Cipolla)?
DL: Haha, in realtà è il soprannome di mio padre. Quindi quando sono nato sono diventato immediatamente “Cipollino” per gli amici di mio padre e per i miei compagni di squadra. Ecco perché!

ICN: Born and raised in Mjällby, what does your hometown’s football club means to you?
DL: Mjällby AIF means a lot to me in many parts, Mjällby AIF was the first club that gave me the opportunity to play professional football. And still do. So the club have been my second home for over 10 seasons now.
ICN: More than 250 games with the club and you are also captain. How important is the role of captain to you?
DL: First of all it’s an honor for me to be the captain for my hometown club. The role is important to me. It makes me to improve more as a player and also my leadership for this young squad we have.
ICN: It’s an incredible moment for Mjällby AIF. Dominate the Ettan Södra championship in 2018, win the Superettan in 2019 and now play the Svenska cupen’s quarterfinals. What is the secret of your success?
DL: I don’t think we have any secrets. It’s just hard work form players and the hole organization. And of course some luck. But like Ingemar Stenmark said – the more i train the more luck i get.
ICN: We know you mostly as a defensive midfielder but you can actually play almost everywhere. Is there a position on the pitch that you prefer in particular? Why exactly that?
DL: I have always been a team player. So I always give my best there the coach place me. But i prefer to play in a central role.
ICN: You have always had a great feeling for score goal. What do you think is your best quality as a scorer?
DL: Oh good question. But I think I’m a good shooter with boot legs, and I’m good at reading the situations so I place myself in good positions. And like everything.. you have to train a lot.
ICN: Have you had an experience in Italy. Before you were bought by Parma then you go to play with Gubbio in Serie B. Can you tell us about that experience?
DL: I wish my time in Italy would be better. But learned a lot when I was in there. Unfortunately i never got the chance in Parma. We change coach after my first two weeks, and the new coach (R.Donadoni) took 8 new players to the squad. After that Parma wanted me to go on loan. It was sad because i think i perform really good those 2 months I had with Parma. The time in Gubbio was not what I expected and got injured after 2 months there.
ICN: What are the main differences between the Serie B and Allsvenskan? Is the level similar in your opinion?
DL: Similar I would say. But the level is a little bit higher in Serie B i think. Serie B have a lot of young players that are really really good. Most of them are on loan from Serie A.
ICN: In your experiences in Malmo and Odense, what did you learn?
DL: In all those clubs (Parma, Gubbio, Malmö, Odense ) i learn a lot. In Italy a lot of tactical things. In Malmö how it is to play for a club that always have to win for their supporters. Odense I learn more about my self as a person and how to handle tough situations physically.
ICN: When you were a kid, did you have a football idol? Were you inspired by him when you played?
DL: I can’t say that I just had one idol. I loved/love to watch football on tv so I had many I looked up to.
ICN: Is there a game you will never forget? Which and why?
DL: My debut in Allsvenskan, AIK away on Råsunda stadion.
ICN: What is your biggest dream with the Mjällby shirt?
DL: Win Allsvenskan and play In Europe.
ICN: How are you experiencing the uncertainty associated with the virus? How do you train? Is it difficult to manage yourself if you don’t know when to start playing again?
DL: We still training like normal. Yeah it’s tuff to manage yourself when u have no games at the weekend to look forward to. But at the same time. We football players should not complain. A lot of people suffer so much more than us
ICN: The last question. I have to ask you, why is your nickname “Löken”?
DL: Haha, it’s actually my fathers nickname. So i got it directly when I was born (Löken Jr) from my fathers friends and team mates. That’s why!
